Where to eat in St. Moritz

The little stube tucked away inside Grace La Margna, the Art Nouveau hotel from 1907 above the lake, serving Engadine classics like cheese fondue, rösti with alpine herbs and Zurich-style veal. Best fondue I had in St. Moritz. The salad is the typical Swiss one you find in most restaurants there, but this was the best one I had.

The Swiss restaurant at Suvretta House, the grand hotel at the foot of the Suvretta slopes just outside the village, serving dishes like fondue and raclette. I had the panzanella and the veal sausage with fries, and everything was good. The highlight was their chocolate ice cream, hands down the best I had on the whole trip.

Suvretta House's mountain restaurant, right by the Suvretta chairlift up into the Corviglia ski and hiking area, with rustic dishes at lunch and smarter ones in the evening. It's in the Michelin Guide. I had the veal Zurich-style. It wasn't bad, but not as good as the ones in Zurich. The place is very pleasant, with fantastic views of the mountains.

The Kulm Hotel's cosy chalet-style restaurant at the entrance to Kulm Park, all woodwork inside and a big sun terrace outside, serving Swiss specialities for lunch and dinner. Solid quality fondue, but I didn't love the bread they used.

The pizzeria at the Kulm Hotel, which opened in 1856 as the first hotel in St. Moritz and is where winter tourism began. In 1864, Johannes Badrutt bet four English summer guests that they'd like the place in winter as well, and offered to pay their fares if they didn't; they came, stayed until Easter, and the season was born. Good quality pizza, better than Chesa Veglia.

The pizzeria up in the hayloft of Chesa Veglia, a farmhouse built in 1658 that's one of the oldest buildings in St. Moritz and is now run by Badrutt's Palace, with pizzas from the wood-fired oven. Very cosy place with decent pizza, it tasted like homemade pizza.

One of the restaurants at Grace La Margna, the Art Nouveau hotel from 1907 that reopened in 2023 as St. Moritz's first new five-star hotel in over 50 years, offers a Mediterranean menu. I ordered a mixed salad and the lobster linguine. The food wasn't amazing, but it was decent, and the view (as promised by the name of the restaurant) was lovely.

A casual Italian place on Via Veglia in the village that opened in December 2018 in an old shoemaker's workshop, and it's named after the last bite of bread you use to mop up the sauce. It got a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2025. I had the tomato salad and the tagliolini with truffles, and the tagliolini was really good. It's a casual place and the service is super friendly.

The confiserie on Via Maistra that Fritz Hanselmann opened in 1894 in the Elvezia house, behind one of the finest sgraffito façades in the region, is still owned by the same family four generations later. It's known for its Engadine nut tart and pralines, and in the evening the tea room becomes a bistro called Fritz, after the founder. Great place to buy some chocolates as well.

Afternoon tea at the Grand Hotel Kronenhof in Pontresina, five minutes from St. Moritz. The Gredig family bought the coaching inn here in 1848 and rebuilt it at the end of the century as the neo-Baroque horseshoe it is now; they held it for some 140 years, and it has belonged to the Kulm group since 2004. Tea is served every day, with the grand piano playing. We sat outside and enjoyed the afternoon tea with a beautiful view.
