A trattoria on Via Sant'Abbondio in Azzano, on the hillside above Tremezzina. Lovely traditional Trattoria which boasts fresh local ingredients in all their dishes.

A restaurant high above Cernobbio on Via della Libertà, with a terrace looking down the lake. A favourite of George Clooney's for good reason. Great food and a spectacular view.

The restaurant at the Il Sereno hotel in Torno, on the water at Via Torrazza. Beautiful hotel, restaurant and view. Had a really lovely meal here overlooking the lake.

A grill house on Via Luigi Cadorna in Como, cooking over an open wood fire, with a glass-fronted ageing room for its beef. Cosy little Trattoria with solid, simple and satisfying dishes.

A pizzeria on Salita Cernaia, one of the stepped lanes in the old centre of Bellagio. While Bellagio is chaotic this felt like a nice little escape from the crowds. The pizza was delicious.

A fish restaurant on Via Armando Diaz in Como, opened by three sisters from Sardinia, with fregola and bottarga alongside the Italian classics. Modern Italian dishes that are tasty and not complicated.

An osteria on Via XX Settembre in Varenna, on the eastern shore, in an old lakeside warehouse converted in 2007 and run by Chef Giuseppe and his family. Great traditional Osteria with delicious pasta.

A gelateria on Via Domenico Fontana in Como. This is the smaller of their two shops, 67 m from the branch on Via Francesco Muralto. Good quality creamy gelato.
