10 places I recommend•3 in the Michelin guide
These are the 10 restaurants and ice cream shops in Buenos Aires I have eaten at myself and would recommend.
A parrilla on Posadas, in the Recova arcades. Was probably the best steak I had in Buenos Aires.
Address: Posadas 1032, C1011 Buenos Aires, Argentina
A parrilla on Guatemala in Palermo Soho, a few streets from Xalapa. One of the top places for steak in Buenos Aires. They also had these really delicious empanadas with corn.
Address: Guatemala 4699, C1425 Buenos Aires, Argentina
A parrilla on Estados Unidos in San Telmo. Great quality Argentinian steaks with a good selection of sides (including rice – my favourite). The place is covered in football paraphernalia so any football fan would find the setting fun. They also had those delicious pan de queso, which I could eat a mountain of.
Address: Estados Unidos 465, C1066 Buenos Aires, Argentina
A parrilla on José A. Cabrera in Palermo Soho, the street it takes its name from. The lights went out while we dined here so my photos are particularly unclear. They had delicious steaks and sides. Not the best parrilla we went to but solid.
Address: Jose A. Cabrera 5100, C1414 Buenos Aires, Argentina
A parrilla on Posadas in Recoleta that does seafood as well as grilled beef. Beautiful restaurant with delicious food. I love that they offer rice as a side dish – in Argentina it's not always an option – and I love rice with my steak.
Address: Posadas 1519, C1112 Buenos Aires, Argentina
The restaurant at the Palacio Duhau on Avenida Alvear in Recoleta. High-end Argentinian cuisine with an emphasis on the best quality meats and seafood. They also have an extensive wine list and fantastic cheese selection.
Address: Av. Alvear 1661, C1014 Buenos Aires, Argentina
A long-running Argentinian place on Posadas in Recoleta, a few doors along from Fervor. This was my first restaurant in Buenos Aires and I loved everything I ate. Especially the dessert, with the generous dollop of dulce de leche that was a revelation to me at the time. It's a nice little traditional restaurant with a great selection of empanadas.
Address: Posadas 1515, C1112 Buenos Aires, Argentina
A Mexican place on El Salvador in Palermo Soho. Tasty Mexican fare in a lovely area. It's the perfect place for a quick shopping break.
Address: El Salvador 4800, C1414 Buenos Aires, Argentina
A Nikkei restaurant – Peruvian cooking with Japanese technique – on Juana Manso in Puerto Madero. I would avoid the sushi and focus on the fish and meat dishes.
Address: Juana Manso 1164, C1107 Buenos Aires, Argentina
An Argentinian ice cream chain – this is the Palermo Soho branch on Armenia, around the corner from Xalapa. Best ice cream I had in Buenos Aires and I particularly recommend the dulce de leche.
Address: Armenia 1618, C1414 Buenos Aires, Argentina
