These are the six restaurants and bakeries in Berlin I have eaten at myself and would recommend.
Horváth is a modern Austrian restaurant that serves inventive and creative dishes. Everything here is delicious and the atmosphere is pleasant. I particularly like how they give you little cards describing each course that you can keep as a memento.

New york style deli in an old brick building from 1927. The building used to be a Jewish girls school. Their pastrami is absolutely delicious and so are their pickles. Comfy seating but very casual and laid back.

A brasserie on Französische Straße, near Gendarmenmarkt. The standout dish here is the Wiener schnitzel for me. It's a great place that has managed to stay consistently good over the years.

Really nice little Vietnamese restaurant. They have seats on the counter but most likely you'll have to sit on shared tables as it's small and very highly in demand. They serve Vietnamese style street food.

Great chain of bakeries across Berlin. The seating area is nothing special but you're there for the pastries so it doesn't matter.
