These are the five restaurants and ice cream shops in Portland I have eaten at myself and would recommend.
The 1925 stone and timber lodge at the foot of Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge, a short drive east of Portland, with a dining room looking out at the falls. If you're doing the waterfall path this is a great place for a decent meal.

Chef Juan Gomez's restaurant, named after his late mother, cooks Pacific Northwest produce through his Mexican-American roots on a menu that changes every week. It moved from South Waterfront to NW 8th Avenue in 2025. A tad too inventive for me but the food was good.

A neighbourhood pizzeria on N Williams Avenue, baking Neapolitan-style pizzas in a wood-fired oven built by Stefano Ferrara in Naples, with garage doors that open onto the street in warm weather. Great super cheesy Pizza.

A seafood restaurant and oyster bar on SE Clinton Street, named after the submarine in Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic, with oysters brought in daily from Puget Sound, the Oregon coast, and Canada. Lovely little restaurant with delicious local dishes.

Chad Draizin's ice cream shop on SE Clinton Street, which began as a summer ice cream truck in 2009 and is known for its custard-style ice cream and unusual toppings. Great quality ice cream with a good selection of flavours.
