2 places I recommend
These are the two restaurants in Piran I have eaten at myself and would recommend.
The restaurant at the Kempinski Palace in Portorož, just along the coast from Piran, in the grand hotel that first opened in 1910. It’s named after the finest sea salt, a nod to the salt pans nearby, and the kitchen cooks contemporary Istrian food, with a terrace looking out over the Adriatic.
Address: Obala 45, 6320 Portorož, Slovenia
A little family-run gostilna on Dantejeva ulica, just off the old town, with only about ten tables and fish on the walls. The cooking is Istrian and Venetian, made to the family’s grandmothers’ recipes with seafood from local fishermen – fish soup, gnocchi with prawns and black cuttlefish risotto. Lovely place with very delicious yet simple local dishes.
