Still one of the best restaurants for Bahraini food in Bahrain. Now they have a branch in London and in Abu Dhabi, but of course it's always best to go to where it all started.

A Bahraini restaurant in Muharraq, across the causeway from Manama. I don't have photos because I mostly order from them, but I highly recommend them for breakfast and really love their cheese chapati.

Address: Shop 1, Building 1128, Road 1531, Muharraq, Bahrain

Still my favourite restaurant in Bahrain despite the chef leaving. Great for brunch as well. They have great pastas – the pumpkin ravioli is better than any I've had in Italy and I particularly love their veal Milanese.

The Venetian institution's Bahrain outpost, on the water at Marassi north-east of Manama. Fantastic service and great quality food.

A Japanese/Korean restaurant and lounge in Adliya, with Peruvian influences. Hands down the best Japanese in Bahrain. Lately I feel they have especially upped their game and the quality is really unparalleled amongst Japanese restaurants in Bahrain. Standout dish for me is their beef bibimbap.

Address: House 1, Road 3803, Block 338, Adliya, Manama, Bahrain

A ramen shop at Platinum Tower, in Seef. Truly satisfying ramen, especially the Wagyu one in my opinion. They also have tasty appetisers and desserts.

A pan-Asian dining room at the Four Seasons on Bahrain Bay, with a sushi counter and a view over the water. We don't have a lot of good quality Asian restaurants in Bahrain, so I feel I can safely say this is the best one.

Address: Road 4606, Building 555, Block 346, Manama, Bahrain

PERSIAN

A Persian restaurant in the Bu Ghazal area of Manama. They have a sister restaurant called Homa and both have really delicious Persian dishes. The quality of the meat is something that distinguishes them from other Persian restaurants in Bahrain. Their koobideh is really succulent and delicious. I recommend the tahsheen (one of the few places that have a lamb tahsheen which I really appreciate) and also their khoresh bamieh.

Address: Bu Ghazal, Manama, Bahrain

STEAKHOUSE

Wolfgang Puck's steakhouse at the Four Seasons on Bahrain Bay. Excellent quality meat and indulgent American side dishes like onion rings and mac and cheese. Beautiful setting as well. I had the Wagyu filet mignon, but I know all the different cuts are great.

Address: Road 4606, Building 555, Block 346, Bahrain Bay, Manama, Bahrain

BAKERIES

FRENCH

Lilou Artisan Patisserie

Lilou Artisan Patisserie
$$· 4.5 Google (707)

A French-style patisserie and cafe in Manama, doing pastries, cakes and breakfast. Lilou is an institution. No trip to Bahrain should be without one. Whether it's for breakfast, lunch or a delectable dessert, Lilou is always a great option. It's French-styled but very heavily Lebanese-influenced. If you happen to be in Bahrain during Ramadan they always have a dedicated menu full of yummy options.
