A trattoria in San Giovanni, on the edge of the city, that Giovanni Suban opened in 1865 with his winnings from the Austrian lottery, and it’s still run by the same family six generations later. The cooking is Triestine and Karst food like jota soup and palacinke, and guests have included Pope John Paul II.
